Diablo 4 Season 7 Review: Feels Lighter, But…

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Diablo 4 Season 7, which began on January 22nd. After about ten days of gameplay, I wanted to share my thoughts.

Diablo 4 Season 7 Content – Witching Hour

The main content of Season 7 is the Witching Hour. Its structure is very similar to the vampire content in Season 2. The Witching Hour itself makes my character feel significantly overpowered. In fact, it was much easier to progress through Torment levels compared to Season 6. However, upgrading the Witching Hour’s powers still requires repetitive play.

Leveling is Too Easy

Following the season quests makes leveling a breeze, as usual. But the loot drops have become more generous, making leveling even easier. Combined with the boosted character power from the Witching Hour, progression is smooth.

Diablo 4 Season 7 Review

No Shortage of Materials

Throughout the leveling process, I never felt a lack of necessary materials. Gold is plentiful, and so are various crafting components. Plus, the abundant item drops provide ample materials for salvaging. I didn’t experience any frustration with material scarcity during leveling.

Encouraging Alt Characters?

With the fast and easy leveling, content consumption seems to be quicker. Perhaps with this in mind, leveling alternate characters has become quite convenient. The Witching Hour’s powers are account-wide, further speeding up alt leveling. If you have the time, this setup seems designed to let you enjoy multiple classes.

Is it Too Casual?

Having recently played Path of Exile 2, Diablo 4 Season 7 feels very casual. This might just be true until Torment 2, though. Once you move to Torment 3, you’ll find the familiar Diablo 4 grind. The effort required to optimize gear for stats remains the same. Leveling is easy up to a certain point, but pushing beyond that still requires significant effort.

Expansion Pack Necessity?

As I mentioned in my Season 6 review, I still haven’t purchased the expansion. Excluding the inability to use mercenaries and runes, Season 7 is perfectly enjoyable without it. Mercenaries seem to be a failed feature, but the runes are a bit of a missed opportunity. Without runes, I have to set my Nightmare Dungeon goals lower.

Diablo 4 Season 7 Overall

Since starting Diablo 4, I’ve played only as a Necromancer, sticking to the Bone Spear and summoner builds each season.

The achievable limits vary each season, and when the grind to push those limits becomes tedious, I wrap up the season. I expect to stop around Nightmare Dungeon 80 this season.

The biggest takeaway from Season 7 is that Diablo 4’s identity seems to be finally clear. It’s a hack-and-slash game that players with limited time can still enjoy. If you’re not aiming for the absolute top, it’s a very enjoyable experience.

I’m not sure when Path of Exile 2 will officially launch, but hopefully, its season starts won’t clash with Diablo 4’s. This way, I can enjoy both games in rotation.
